Rowing the Murray River
The Trip 2017
The row
Day One Hume Dam to Yarawonga
Day One - Saturday 9 December
Mike’s plane was late, then we did some running around, a few jobs etc.
Got a slow puncture on the car but launched the boats and got the car back to the caravan park for storage before it went flat. Dealt with that at the end of the trip.
Departed from just below Hume Weir. 1.00 pm
Rowed for 4 hours. Stopped at a public park on the river. Chatted with a few locals. Rohan slept on board, Mike in the park. Good sleep.
Rowed 30 k.
Day 2 Albury to Howlong
Day Two - Sunday 10
Departed at about 6.15 am. Did two hours then had a break and tucker. Absolutely beautiful place, a river bend with small smooth pebbles and the water was quite clear.
Rowed another 3 hours and had a break. Did another two-hour session and came to Howlong. Stopped at a park and then decided to go on 3k to a caravan park. It was crap. We were dead. A little too much today.
Rowed 70 k.
Day 3 Howlong to Corowa
Day Three - Monday 11
Departed at about 6.30. Rowed two hours and then had a break. Did another two hours and had a break. Then took a short cut, a touch challenging, flowing well with a few snags. After an hour and a half we had a short break. Then reached Corowa after about 45 minutes. Hauled the boats out, tidied up, showered, went shopping and had a rest. Did some laundry (shock?), cooked dinner and chilled.
Rowed 50 k today.
Day 5 Lake to Yarawonga
Day Five - Wednesday
Departed at 6-ish. Rowed an hour and a half. Reached Yarawonga. Ported craft. Mike announces that it is the end of the line for him. I catch a bus, then train back to Albury. Picked up the car.
Rowed 15 k today.
Drove back to Yarawonga. Loaded boats and drove to Albury. Then drove home in three days.
Keen to continue next year.
NOTE: Did not continue in 2018, went sailing on Moreton Bay.

The Drive
Stage 0
The Drive - 3000+ km.
Mareeba - Brisbane - Albury
Unfortunately it is a long way to drive to the Murray. Madness?
I will go via Brisbane and catch up with my son, then head to the Murray River. I will return by the coast road from Sydney to Brisbane, stopping at a few places on the way. When I hit Brisbane it will be straight home in two days.
